On 10 October 2025 the ENCJ received a request for support from the President of Sodni svet (Council for the Judiciary of Slovenia) regarding the amendments to the legal acts related to the judiciary, including Act on the Judicial Council. The President noted that during the deliberation of the legislative proposals in the Parliament, legislative changes affecting the work of the Council were proposed without proper prior consultation. The proposition included possible limitations on the decisions of the Council for the Judiciary on selection of candidates. The letter is available here.
After receiving additional information, an ad hoc ENCJ Executive Board meeting was organized on 20 October 2025 and a letter to the representatives of legislative and the executive state powers of the Republic of Slovenia, asking to halt the adoption of the proposed amendments until proper consultation and evaluation of the newly proposed provisions was carried out with the Council for the Judiciary. The letter is available here.
On 18 November 2025 the ENCJ has received a letter from the Minister of Justice of the Republic of Slovenia, clarifying that in the second reading in the Parliament newly proposed amendments were aligned with the legislative changes in the originally proposed text. The response is available here.
