ENCJ adopts Vilnius declaration PDF Print E-mail
The General Assembly of the ENCJ gathered in Vilnius from 8-10 June.  One of the aims of the meeting was to discuss the challenges and opportunities for the judiciary in the current economic climate. The Vilnius Declaration was  adopted that lists a set of recommendations for the judiciaries of Europe on how to respond to the actual challenges and opportunities they are facing. The recommendations call for the development of long term policies that include necessary reforms of the judiciary. Courts should improve their efficiency, alternative dispute resolution should be promoted, and the judiciary should develop stronger relations with civil society to reinforce public confidence and gain support for the necessary reforms. Councils for the Judiciary should take the lead in the reform process involving judges and courts.
CSM Romania publishes monthly newsletter PDF Print E-mail

The Consiliul Superior al Magistraturii of Romania took the initiative to publish a monthly newsletter in English. The first edition was published in May 2011 and introduces the newly elected members of the CSM.

IX ENCJ General Assembly in Vilnius PDF Print E-mail
The next ENCJ General Assembly will take place 8-10 June 2011 in Vilnius, Lithuania. The general theme of the meeting will be : "Challenges and opportunities for the Judiciary in the current economic climate". Invitations for the General Assembly were sent to the Members, Observers and Invited Guests on 7 April. The General Assembly will be hosted by Teiseju Taryba, the Judicial Council of Lithuania, supported by the National Court Administration .  
FRA publishes report on Access to Justice in the EU PDF Print E-mail
On 23 March 2011 the Fundamental Rights Agency of the EU published a report on Access to Justice in the European Union. The report provides an EU-wide comparative analysis of the effectiveness of access to justice, across the EU Member States. The national thematic studies the report is based on give an overview of the national court systems, restrictions regarding access to justice, the length of judicial proceedings and rules relating to the payment of legal costs. 
New composition Executive Board PDF Print E-mail
The Executive Board has a new member. After the mandate of Gracieuse Lacoste at the French CSM ended, a vacancy arose. During the last Steering Commitee meeting on 11 February in Budapest, Horatius Dumbrava, President of the CSM Romania was appointed as member of the Executive Board.
