Susan Denham, new Chief Justice of Ireland PDF Print E-mail

Mrs Justice Susan Denham has been appointed as new Chief Justice of Ireland. She made the constitutional declaration on July 25th , 2011 in the presence of President Mary McAleese, the Prime Minister Kenny, the Attorney General and the Minister for Justice. In a statement issued through the Courts Service, Mrs Denham said "the time has now come to develop a Judicial Council in Ireland, to support the Judiciary in their difficult task, whilst providing assurance to the public that all judges maintain our traditional high judicial standards."

As Chief Justice, Susan Denham will chair the Courts Service Board.

2nd Newsletter of CSM Romania published PDF Print E-mail
CSM Romania published its second monthly Infoletter just before the Summer. The newsletter focuses on the entering into force of a new Civil Code, the drafting of a regulation for the appointment to executive positions in the Judiciary and intitiatives taken to strengthen inter-institutional relations and the possible launching of a National Project for Justice. 
ENCJ adopts Vilnius declaration PDF Print E-mail
The General Assembly of the ENCJ gathered in Vilnius from 8-10 June.  One of the aims of the meeting was to discuss the challenges and opportunities for the judiciary in the current economic climate. The Vilnius Declaration was  adopted that lists a set of recommendations for the judiciaries of Europe on how to respond to the actual challenges and opportunities they are facing. The recommendations call for the development of long term policies that include necessary reforms of the judiciary. Courts should improve their efficiency, alternative dispute resolution should be promoted, and the judiciary should develop stronger relations with civil society to reinforce public confidence and gain support for the necessary reforms. Councils for the Judiciary should take the lead in the reform process involving judges and courts.
CSM Romania publishes monthly newsletter PDF Print E-mail

The Consiliul Superior al Magistraturii of Romania took the initiative to publish a monthly newsletter in English. The first edition was published in May 2011 and introduces the newly elected members of the CSM.

IX ENCJ General Assembly in Vilnius PDF Print E-mail
The next ENCJ General Assembly will take place 8-10 June 2011 in Vilnius, Lithuania. The general theme of the meeting will be : "Challenges and opportunities for the Judiciary in the current economic climate". Invitations for the General Assembly were sent to the Members, Observers and Invited Guests on 7 April. The General Assembly will be hosted by Teiseju Taryba, the Judicial Council of Lithuania, supported by the National Court Administration .
