Joint Statement on Ukraine - Network of Presidents of the Supreme Courts and ENCJ

The Network of the Presidents of the Supreme Judicial Courts of the European Union and the European Councils for the Judiciary resolutely condemn the severe breach of the international law and aggressive act of war committed by the Russian Federation against the Ukraine. They appeal for a return to civil forms of debate that respect international law, human rights and the principles of democracy and the rule of law. The Networks express their utmost concern for the people of Ukraine and their solidarity with the Ukrainian people and their judiciary.

ENCJ Board endorsed the joint statement on Afghanistan

On 20 December 2021, the ENCJ Board endorsed the joint statement of the Network of the Presidents of the Supreme Judicial Courts of the European Union (NPSJC), the European Association of Judges (EAJ), the Association of the Councils of State and Supreme Administrative Jurisdictions of the European Union (ACA-Europe) and the European Network of Councils for the Judiciary (ENCJ) on the judicial Independence in reference to the situation in Afghanistan.

ENCJ convenes an Extraordinary General Assembly to vote on KRS expulsion

Upon the decision of the Executive Board, the ENCJ convenes an Extraordinary General Assembly on 28-29 October 2021 in Vilnius to vote on the Polish Judicial National Council/Krajowa Rada Sadownictwa expulsion from the Association. On 27 May 2020 the Executive Board of the ENCJ already proposed to the ENCJ General Assembly to convene as soon as possible as the Covid-19 pandemic would allow it, that the KRS be expelled. 

ENCJ Board on the developing situation in Afghanistan

The Executive Board of the ENCJ is following with great concern the recent developments in Afghanistan. The Board herewith expresses its firm endorsement for the recent call for international support in Afghanistan by the International Association of Judges (IAJ). The Board would like to emphasise  the difficult situation of women judges who have expressed genuine fear in an uncertain and evolving situation.
