One of the objectives of the ENCJ is to exchange experience in relation to how the judiciary is organised and how it functions. Within the ENCJ a great number of questionannaires is circulated by the Members in order to gain insight in the mechanisms and structures in place in other judiciaries. In this section we will publish the comparative studies done by ENCJ Members on specific aspects of the Judicial Organisation.

Status of Judges
In 2009/2010 an ENCJ working group studied the topic of Status of Judges. The report (EN/FR) touches upon issues relating to recruitment, evaluation, liability and immunity of judges.
 
Councils for the Judiciary in Europe

Opinion no. 10 of the Consultative Council of European Judges of the Council of Europe (CCJE) aims to identify the core elements in relation to the general mission, composition and functions of the Council for the Judiciary with a view to strengthening democracy and to protecting the independence of the judiciary. The questionnaire that was used for gathering information containts useful information on the composition and competences of Councils for the Judiciary in Europe. (preliminary work CCJE opinion no. 10).

The Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe adopted Recommendation CM/Rec(2010)12 on judges; independence, efficicency and responsibilities. Chapter IV deals with Councils for the Judiciary.

Judicial Quality Management

Judicial Quality Management has been the object of several ENCJ working groups. See also the section on Quality Management.

The ENCJ Register on Quality Management 2007-2008 lists the various quality management activities of the Councils for the Judiciary.

The ENCJ Register on Quality Management 2008-2009 lists quality management activities in their relation to Transparency and Acces to Justice.

The ENCJ Register on Quality Management 2009-2010 contains an extensive overview of hindrances to Access to Justice and initiatives that aim to overcome them.
